Professor of Medicine, Director, Benioff Center for Microbiome Medicine
University of California, San Francisco
Dr. Lynch is a Professor of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology and Director of the Benioff Center for Microbiome Medicine. Her research focuses on the contributions of mucosal microbiomes to the origins and maintenance of chronic inflammatory disease. Her microbiome research program spans human population-based studies to cellular and molecular mechanistic investigations. These efforts are aimed at understanding the origins and mechanisms by which microbiomes promote inflammatory disease over temporal and spatial gradients. Her group has pioneered the development and application of integrative statistical analytical approaches to multi-modal microbiome and immunological data sets and has developed novel ex vivo and in vivo models to assess the capacity of human microbiota, specific microbial species or their molecular products to drive immune cell training and function. Dr. Lynch also serves as the Associate Director of the Microbiome in Inflammatory Bowel Disease Research Program at UCSF. She co-founded and serves as a board member and consultant for Siolta Therapeutics, focused on testing the efficacy of novel, rationally designed microbiome interventions for prevention of inflammatory disease.
